Today, I watched the final show of Graduate Diploma Art and Design course.
In exhibition, I was impressed by 'On Reflections and Revelations' which is installation by Ariadne Sevgi Avkiran.
There were six sculptures and one mirror. The shape of sculpture is like human face, but not definitely. The main concept of this work is emotion. Avkiran was inspired by relationship with her friends. She said when she communicated with others, the many emotion flow and she can named these emotions with the word.
The main material of these works are glass and plaster. Avkiran said that she used these material because of her emotion. Plaster is easy to flew, but solid soon. It is easy to express her feeling directly. Moreover, glass is difficult to control. She cannot expect correctly until she complete the final work.
There is a sculpture I was interested most. This work made from plaster and put some plant put in the mouth. Plant looks like appearing from mouth, but mouth looks like choking on these plants. I consider that this plants mean her word what she wants to say her friend, but she chokes on that.
In addition, I think that a mirror on the wall is interesting. She said that it means make audience look their mind. For me, it was interesting that I could see her face sculpture and my own face together. I could see the situation of me surrounded by many face sculpture.

Grayson Perry
I went to the Margate Museum.
There is an exhibition about Grayson Perry.
Before I went there, I wondered why he use ceramic because his work looks like just draw picture on the ceramic pot, and the shape of pot is normal.
However, I was surprised at his works when I looked them with my eyes.
I realised he has great talent at choose material. He understood well what emotion comes from texture. For example, carpet remind us the old carpet with myth or something old stories and etching remind traditional etching for describe important things. Moreover, the some of 3D texture on the pot likes iron, or there are gold texture with feeling some special. Furthermore, there is a work shaped skeleton. The teeth of this has deep cleavage so this likes really old teeth and this skeleton becomes grave. I think he use all material what he wants.
A key aspect of Perry's work is cheep. For example, he made the work that made from cloth and draw the humans life from born from women and go to the hell like Hieronymus Bosch.
There are a lot of names of famous brand in the world near all characters. There is no connection and no reason between what character and what brand. He just put names. It show these names light as the name of human. We remember brand name as it has huge power in this society, but he ignore the meaning of brand's name deliberately. Some girl named Nokia and Some boy named Chanel, but the importance of the name is deal with the same in his picture.
This feature is same on another picture. He draw the map of his body and there are lots of name of appetite or emotion. For instance, there are words like love, money, sleepy, envy, and angry. However, there is a no connection between each emotion! Usually, people deal with those emotion as it is really important. Some of artists connects contradiction emotion like love with hate, envy, but Perry drew the names just it is a name.
In addition, on his ceramic work, he drew very personal opinions like 'I hate the man who doing soccer'. He deals his personal emotion with the traditional technique. There is a gap what I look at moment and when I look carefully and read words. I think it is really interesting attempt, and it is new way of thinking what is the important of the world.
Moreover, I am impressed at the film work. I like this because it is really hand-made. The act of actor is amateur and the technique of edit is not high. In this film, there is a chicken and rose petals come down suddenly, but the movement of flower is really human-hand. Audience can understand someone sprinkle petals from outside of screen. However, I like this tendency. Nowadays, film is made extremely high quality but Perry tried to make film with his hands as his other artworks.

Building the Seed Cathedral
I watched the presentation of Thomas Heatherwick in TED Talk.
He creates a lot of interesting architecture. For example, he constructed Seed Cathedral in 2010. The concept of this monument is biodiversity. He always thinks the combination of nature and architecture. His work has variation, like temple, cafe, bridge, and so on.
Architecture is fundamental instrument in our life. Therefore, designing architects mean design human lifestyle.

I think that I can contribute to keep cities eco-friendly. Keeping roads and public space clean is important role for citizen. Personally, I can grow plants in the garden, or make birds house.
Nowadays, birds, fish, and all animals are affected by human. I think we have to coexist with them and architect is necessary to make the world sustainable.

Maker Movement
There is a third industrial revolution. It is mean people can work together regardless the place. The development of technology and the cloud service enabled this situation.
One of the artist said that some people asked 'what's art for?' but he think these kind of question is meaningless and the process is most important. He also said that the material that he uses is garbage if it is just put, but for him, it is treasure.
I was impressed by the girl named Sylvia. She has strong interest for technology and science and creative many things.

Project3-Introspection
I finished presentation of project3 on 8th August.
My group, J&C did performing art. The title of our performance is 'Introspection'.
The message of this work is 'self-acceptance'. I wrote this meaning more detail on proposal.
We want to let audience think themselves through our performance. From project3, I learned that all of us have different background, but we can find common with talking and respecting each other. I reflected my experience on my proposal part. We don't need to be afraid to be different.
In presentation, I was a pitch coordinator. I look carefully about our proposal, and reconstruct this for presentation. I tried to make all research easy to understand, and distributed time for to be satisfied for ten minutes.
However, artists commented for our presentation on Friday. They said they expected to see our process and performance more, and not need too much information of research. We considered our presentation again and make this simple to just forces on performance.
Actually, group work is really hard for me because I'm not good at tell my idea organized and combine others idea to make result better. Sometime I forget to think about work and just listen others. It is difficult for me to understand others idea at moment. Fortunately, my group members listened carefully me and atmosphere was always good. I know it is difficult for everyone to do group work about art because all people have strong opinion about what they study a lot.
I think my speaking has improved during this period even if I make a lot of mistakes. I learned that the most important thing is that I think a lot and keep motivation to tell my opinion.
I appreciate to all my group members to try to understand each other and make our work better.

English is difficult
Recently, my friend told me that she should use more 'difficult' English.
Since then, I've been thinking what is 'difficult' on using the language.
I think three kinds of difficulty.
First, I regard this word is difficult when I cannot understand the meaning of the word.
For example, there is a sentence that
'John is like Picasso.'
If I've never seen the word Picasso, I 'll get confuse.
I'll look up Picasso in dictionary, and find out that is artist's name.
It will easy to overcome. I need only dictionary.
Nest, I feel this word is difficult when I cannot understand the concept of the word.
For example,
'John can use the theory of relativity.'
Theory of relativity? I cannot understand whole concept of this word if I look up 'theory of relativity' in google. I'm not good ant mathematics.
It is difficult to overcome because I need to spend a lot of time to study the concept of the word.
Third, I feel this word is difficult when I cannot understand why this word is used in the sentence.
For example,
'John can use the theory of relativity, so he is like Picasso.'
I cannot understand what mean theory of relativity and Picasso in this sentence only using dictionary.
There is no explanation what connection between theory of relativity and Picasso.
However, this problem can overcome if writer add more explanation, like
'John is only eleven years old. However, he can use the theory of relativity, so he is like Picasso.'
Then, if I know Picasso's history well, I can understand that writer mention Picasso to compare with John's and Picasso's talent in young age.
If I don't know Picasso, writer should add like
'John is only eleven years old. However, he can use the theory of relativity. Picasso was a genius in drawing at young age, so John is like Picasso.'
These examples are not good.
Maybe writer should write only 'John is genius.'

Review of IFAD Final Show
Maybe you think I did copy and paste if you have already read Nozomi's art review. I apologize to Nozomi for using her way to writing but it is necessary for me to improve my English.
'Liberty' was made by Ke Xu who is one of students of International Foundation in Art & Design at UCA. I found the work at the exhibition of the final major project yesterday.
She expressed her work by using 3 garments, 1 photo and 1 shooting portfolio which are based on numerous research.
She is interested in sexuality that exists as social role. She focuses on the femininity that is considered as usually weak.
She told me about the Romanticism and Impressionist which she was inspired through producing her concept. She is attracted by the softness of nature and women , and reflects inspiration on her work.
There is a cloth used a lot of white cloth which have different texture in the middle of the picture. Robe is long but skirt is really short. Xu told that this work was inspired by wedding dress, but she had made that for against marriage.
Her main concept is 'Liberty'. She think about situation of female, and release women from their role in the contemporary society.
There is a picture on the wall which woman is wearing this cloth. Woman glares audience like she would like to provoke audience.
I think her works is sensitive, feeling wind, and feminine. However, Xu tries to overcome what people think about women cloth. Therefore, she makes work which likes military jacket but made from soft and white material. The shape like military jacket which used in men community, but her cloth's detail is feminine. Personally, it is interesting for me that her work has feminine detail because I think that women need power as men when women fights with their male counterparts. However, Xu thinks that feminine is powerful as manlike.
In addition, I have a question about fashion. These questions are probably too childish and not relate to this exhibition.
I wonder why nowadays, designers use only thin and tall model? Nowadays, people think that this figure is suit to show cloth cool, but why high designers make cloth only for thin and tall proportion? There are lots of designers which have different thought, but all of them use long leg model in the show.
Moreover, one of IFAD student told me that there was a trend each year, like this year is flower and this year is fish, so catch this season trend is important to do fashion promotion. This year is flower, so lots of high bland use flower patterns in their works.
However, I wonder why there is a trend of the cloth? Why does all unique high bland create same trend? Who make that?
In addition, I asked him how can you promote catwalk cloth even if they are not suit for wearing? Some student told me that Alexander Macqueen made a lot of new design for catwalk, and he sold the comfortable cloth with used expensive material, and he got money from that. I wonder it is good for his concept. He made cloth that overcome function and material of cloth but he sold cloth that people can wear comfortable! Is that why people think his work is new forever?
